BMW Brings Back Beautiful Retro Colors On a Special M340i

BMW is bringing back some of its best retro colors with the debut of the new M340i xDrive Jahre Edition.Happy 50th birthday, BMW 3 Series. The beloved luxury sedan is celebrating five decades of success with a special edition model honoring every generation that came before it: The BMW M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition. This special M340i pays tribute to its predecessors with exclusive paint, trim, and wheel options—including several finishes never before offered on a modern 3 Series. Buyers can choose from five colors sourced from earlier generations, spanning from the original E21 to the E90. Each exterior color pairs with one of three interior leather options—Black, Ivory, or Tartufo—plus carbon fiber trim and "3 Series 50 Jahre Edition" badging throughout the cabin. It also marks the first time BMW has offered Extended Merino Leather on the 3 Series, which comes standard here. The exterior hue also dictates the brake-caliper finish, either red or blue. A standard Shadowline Package adds adaptive LED headlights and darkened grille and lower-intake accents. BMW further equips the model with an M Performance carbon-fiber trunk-lid spoiler, 19-inch M dual-spoke wheels, M Performance exhaust tips, and additional “50 Jahre Edition” badging on the boot. Here’s what those combos look like, including which generation of the 3 Series they come from: Nothing changes on the performance front—not that we’re complaining. The M340i already has plenty to offer. It keeps its standard turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six mild-hybrid engine, producing 386 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to send the 3 Series to 60 miles per hour in just 4.1 seconds. Power is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels. Interested in this limited-run 3 Series? BMW is asking $76,375 (including destination) for the Jahre Edition. The company hasn’t said how many units it plans to build, only that production will be limited. The M340i 50 Jahre Edition is slated to hit the road early next year.
