Nobody Wants These 2024 Models And Dealers Are Drowning In Inventory

by Brad Anderson A surprising share of last year’s vehicles remain unsold today. Stellantis brands dominate the list of stagnant stockpiles. Shoppers may find better deals as inventories continue to swell. A deep dive into more than 2.6 million new car listings across the States, compiled by iSeeCars, reveals a stubborn issue for several Stellantis brands: Dodge, Jeep, and Alfa Romeo are still sitting on significant excess inventories of 2024 models that aren’t moving off dealer lots. That’s a clear headache for manufacturers and dealers, but for buyers, it opens a window to score a deal, assuming you’re willing to shop where the stockpile is. Read: Stellantis Cuts Inventory, But Dodge, Jeep, And Ram Still Sit On Piles Of Unsold Cars Taking out the top spot in this list is the Dodge Hornet PHEV. Approximately 82.1 percent of the total 2024 inventory is still on dealer lots across the country, according to the study. To put that into perspective, the industry average of 2024 models still on lots is just 0.4 percent. Evidently, dealers are really struggling to move Hornets. Why Aren’t These Moving? That struggle likely has something to do with the price tag. The average listing price for a 2024 Hornet PHEV is $41,166, which is only $244 under the original MSRP for the mid-range Hornet R/T. In other words, not much of a deal yet, at least on paper. Taking out second place in the iSeeCars study is the Jeep Grand Cherokee with 70.8 percent of 2024 inventory still available, with an average price of $64,014. Right behind is another Stellantis model, the Alfa Romeo Tonale Hybrid, with 46.8 percent of 2024 inventory still listed for sale. Other models include the discontinued Chevrolet Malibu (31 percent), the ICE-powered Dodge Hornet (26.3 percent), Jeep Grand Wagoneer L (24.1 percent), Genesis GV60 (21.8 percent), Dodge Charger (20.9 percent), and the Nissan Z (18.8 percent.). Out of the 23 models topping the leftover list, 12 belong to Stellantis. Beyond the Hornet and Grand Cherokee, this includes the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, Maserati Grecale, and both the Grand and standard Wagoneer L variants. That concentration makes Stellantis a clear outlier, at least among 2024 holdovers. The picture shifts when you look at 2025 inventories. Leading the way in unsold stock is the BMW i4, with 89.2 percent of listed 2025 units still waiting for a buyer. Following close behind are the Lexus GX 550 and Subaru BRZ, at 87.8 percent and 87.1 percent respectively. While the manufacturers differ, the pattern remains: some newer models are also off to a sluggish retail start.
