Driving the Twin-Supercharged Lamborghini Diablo SV Monterey

The 1998 Lamborghini Diablo SV Monterey Edition is hardly subtle, yet this example shows the model at its absolute best. One of only 20 U.S.-market Monterey cars, it carries factory-upgraded 18-inch wheels, larger Brembo brakes, an adjustable rear wing, and special interior trim.More importantly, Lamborghini of America fitted this particular SV with twin superchargers—an exceptionally clean, factory-level installation that elevates the Diablo’s 5.7-liter V12 far beyond its original 530 hp. The real transformation is torque: instantaneous, forceful, and far more usable than the stock engine ever offered.A recent feature with Jay Leno and Donald Osborne highlights just how special this configuration is. In an Audrain Museum Network video, the two take the ultra-rare, twin-supercharged Diablo SV Monterey Edition out for a drive, comparing it with other Lamborghinis while breaking down its design evolution, performance character, and the unique sensations that come with piloting such a rare factory-modified supercar.
